A very correct consignment sale. The car was advertised, shown to buyers and sold at a price I was happy with. I didn’t have to do anything.

Selling a used car at the best price

There are three ways to sell a car in Latvia: find a buyer yourself, choose a consignment sale, or sell the car to a dealership. Each option has its own advantages – the only differences are the time until the deal closes, the final price and how much you have to be involved yourself. If selling a used car is on your mind, but a thought keeps running through your head: “I want to sell my car quickly, but I don't want to bother with listings” - our team can take this whole process over.

Selling a used car: methods and options

There is no single “right” solution – the right one is whatever matches your goal and the condition of your car. First, it’s worth understanding what you want: the fastest possible deal, a higher price, or a safe process in situations where the car is on lease.

The choice usually starts with a priority:

  • “I have the time and experience” → you can try to sell your car yourself
  • “I want to sell quickly”car buyout
  • “I want the best price”consignment sale
  • “The car is on a lease” → selling the car with approval from the leasing provider

Car buyout

A car buyout is a quick deal: you receive an offer, an inspection/valuation takes place and a contract is drawn up. It is usually simpler than selling through classified ads – the car is bought within a short time, but the price is often lower.

Why does the buyout price differ from classified-ad prices? Because the buyer takes on the risk and the costs: inspections, preparation, any repairs and the time until the onward sale.

Car buyout in brief:

  • how quickly the car is sold: often on the same day or within 1–2 days
  • what is assessed: condition, history, market price, defects
  • how payment is made: bank transfer

Before handing over your car, it is important to learn from others’ experiences with car buyouts – reviews from acquaintances or online will certainly help you make the right decision.

Consignment car sale

Consignment means: you entrust the sales process to us, and the car is sold at a market-appropriate price — usually higher than in a buyout.

Consignment car sales at the Elite Cars showroom:

  1. We assess the car and agree on a price
  2. We prepare the car for presentation (car detailing)
  3. We take photos and write a clear description
  4. We publish the listing and handle calls/messages
  5. We arrange viewings and negotiations
  6. We verify the buyer’s seriousness (identity, payment method, agreement)
  7. We complete the paperwork and arrange the payment
  8. Handover of the car: keys, documents, confirmation of handover

Consignment sale is also a good solution when you cannot decide between speed and price. We help determine a market-appropriate amount and develop a realistic plan for how long it may take to sell your car. Of course, this service has its own advantages and disadvantages:

Selling a car under lease

Leasing is not an obstacle, but there are specific steps that need to be done correctly if you decide to sell a leased car: coordination with the leasing provider, knowing the outstanding balance and properly arranging the transfer of ownership.

How it works:

  1. We find out the outstanding balance and terms with the leasing provider
  2. We agree on the deal structure: who settles the balance and when
  3. We prepare the documents and approvals (you + buyer + leasing company)
  4. We receive confirmation that the obligations have been settled
  5. We arrange the transfer of ownership and handover of the car

Who does what:

  • Customer: provides contract details, authorisations (if needed) and documents
  • Car seller: coordinates the process, negotiations, buyers, documents and payment arrangements
  • Leasing company: confirms the outstanding balance, finalises the settlement of the obligation and grants permission for the change of ownership

Every leasing company has its own requirements. We have experience working with various conditions and make sure everything proceeds without unnecessary delays. This helps avoid situations where the buyer is ready to pay, but the deal – the car sale – is held up due to paperwork.

Why you should entrust your car sale to us

You don’t have to face the listing calls, buyers and odd offers alone. You stay in control of the terms, while we help with screening buyers, negotiations, viewings and paperwork. This lets you avoid unnecessary viewings, the “I’ll come take a look and think about it” types, and situations where everything seemed agreed but the deal falls through in the end.

We do specific things on your behalf:

  • screen buyers and filter out time-wasting calls
  • arrange viewings and handle negotiations
  • justify the price with a market comparison
  • handle the deal paperwork and all steps up to handover

Of course, you can sell your car yourself or entrust it to others, but the “price” is often your time, nerves and risk: an inaccurate contract, an unclear payment, a buyer who disappears at the last minute.

We are licensed to trade in categories A, B, C and E. Trading location registration certificate No. 4168. You can find information about us on the CSDD website: https://e.csdd.lv/autoveikali/

How to find us?

Frequently Asked Questions

You entrust the sale of your car to us, while you can keep using it yourself. We prepare the listing, communicate with buyers, arrange viewings and finalise the deal. Payment is only due after a successful sale. We handle all communication with buyers – calls, messages, questions, price negotiations. You receive only genuine offers and make the final decision on the sale.

The commission is 3% of the car’s sale price, but no less than 500 EUR. There is no prepayment and no hidden costs. You only pay once the car is sold.

Yes, selling a car under lease is possible. We coordinate the process with the leasing company, find out the outstanding balance and help to correctly arrange the transfer of ownership. You don’t have to handle the paperwork with the buyer and the leasing provider yourself.

If price is the main priority, then consignment sale usually yields a higher amount than a car buyout. A car buyout is faster, but often at a lower price. We help you assess which option will be more advantageous for you.

Selling a used car with minor defects is normal practice. The key is to disclose them honestly. We help you understand how imperfections affect the price and present the information to the buyer clearly, to avoid disputes after the deal.
