Paldies Elite Cars!
Tesla is one of the world’s best-known electric car manufacturers, focusing on fully electric powertrains, software solutions and charging infrastructure. The brand offers a streamlined range of models, with the main emphasis on efficiency, acceleration and the digital user experience. Tesla is becoming increasingly popular in Latvia, as electric cars offer lower running costs compared to cars with internal combustion engines. Elite Cars’ range features a selection of nearly new and used Tesla models with verified technical condition and clear information on equipment and battery performance. Find out more about the brand below.
Tesla is a US electric car manufacturer, founded in 2003, with a focus on fully electric mobility and software integration in cars. The company’s chief executive and one of its main shareholders is Elon Musk, who has significantly influenced the brand’s development and market positioning. Tesla has grown by introducing electric cars with a longer range and greater functionality than previous solutions, whilst simultaneously developing its charging infrastructure (the Supercharger network).
Tesla models utilise a fully electric drivetrain with instant torque, ensuring fast and smooth acceleration without gear changes. Many models, such as the Model 3 and Model Y, are available with dual-motor all-wheel drive (Dual Motor AWD), where each motor drives its own axle, improving grip, stability and traction in a variety of road conditions. Some versions are available in Performance configurations, offering significantly faster acceleration and a sportier chassis set-up.
Tesla electric models, such as the Model 3 and Model Y, typically offer a range of around 400–600 km (WLTP) on a single charge, depending on the version, battery capacity and drivetrain configuration. Actual range varies depending on driving speed, temperature and route. The brand focuses on battery efficiency, thermal management and software optimisation, all of which affect both energy consumption and charging speed.
Tesla offers access to its Supercharger network, which provides fast DC charging for longer journeys and automatic route planning with charging stops. At Supercharger stations, charging power can reach up to ~250 kW (depending on the station and model), allowing a significant range reserve to be replenished in a short time. In Latvia, such charging stations are available only in Riga at ‘Akropole Riga’ and in Rēzekne. Across Europe, the CCS standard is more widely used, which means full compatibility with public charging infrastructure, including the AC and DC stations available in Latvia. This allows for both standard and fast charging outside the Tesla network.
Tesla electric cars are controlled via a central touchscreen, where most functions are concentrated – from climate control to driving settings. The software is regularly updated remotely (over-the-air), adding new features and improving performance without the need for a physical service visit. Models such as the Model 3 and Model Y feature driver-assistance systems, including Autopilot, which provides adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping. Advanced features (such as navigation with automatic lane changes or extended autonomy) are available depending on configuration and market regulations.
Tesla’s interior is characterised by a distinctly minimalist design with a reduced number of physical buttons. In models such as the Model 3, Model Y and Model X, the dashboard has been replaced by a digital interface that redefines traditional control logic. This approach reduces the number of mechanical components but increases reliance on software and the user interface. As a result, the user experience differs significantly from that of conventional cars, where physical buttons and analogue controls predominate, with the exception of the Model S.
Tesla is positioned as a technology-oriented electric car brand with an emphasis on software, charging infrastructure and efficiency. Compared to other manufacturers in this segment, Tesla focuses more on the digital user experience, regular software updates and a simplified model range, rather than extensive customisation options and a traditional approach to interior design.
Tesla is suitable for drivers who prioritise the efficiency of electric cars, lower running costs and a digital driving experience. The brand is particularly well-suited to everyday driving and modern urban mobility.
| Pros | Cons |
| Low running costs (electricity versus fuel) | Dependence on charging infrastructure |
| Fast acceleration and electric drive | Longer journeys require planning |
| Longer range on a single charge for newer models | Fewer traditional controls, which take some getting used to |
| Regular software updates |
When choosing a Tesla, buyers usually compare the options for new, nearly new and used electric cars, taking into account price, range and technology level. If you’re planning to buy a Tesla in Latvia, it’s important to understand the differences between these segments, as they affect day-to-day use and long-term costs.
A new Tesla electric car offers the latest software features, a full manufacturer’s warranty and access to the latest technological solutions, including Autopilot and safety systems, as well as the option to personalise the interior and exterior. It comes with a brand-new battery with no previous usage history and receives regular over-the-air software updates.
Pre-owned Tesla electric cars (1–3 years old) include models such as the Model 3, Model X and Model Y, offering a lower price and a relatively up-to-date level of technology, and often still come with a manufacturer’s warranty. Cars in this segment have already experienced the sharpest drop in value, but retain up-to-date features and receive regular software updates. Battery degradation is usually minimal, so the battery will last for several more years.
Second-hand Tesla electric cars (3–5 years old) offer a wider price range and greater choice, particularly in the Model 3 and Model S variants. In this segment, it is essential to assess the condition of the battery, the mileage and charging habits, as these directly affect the car’s performance and long-term usability. Frequent fast charging and regular charging to 100 per cent can lead to faster battery degradation, so it is advisable to check the charging history and the battery health diagnostics on the dashboard (Battery health) before purchasing.
A used or low-mileage Tesla allows you to acquire an electric car with state-of-the-art technology at a lower cost, as most of the depreciation occurs during the first few years of ownership. This means you can choose a better-equipped model or a version with a higher mileage allowance for the same budget, whilst enjoying a driving experience similar to that of newer cars. Regular software updates continue to improve the car’s features even over a longer period of use, keeping them up to date even after several years. Tesla’s design does not include a traditional gearbox or the complex mechanical components that typically wear out in cars with internal combustion engines, so maintenance costs may be lower in the long term.
Elite Cars is a leader in the sale of nearly new and used electric cars. We have sold more than 150 Tesla electric cars, the most popular of which is the Model 3.
